It’s Time for a Special Session on Border Security

Biden’s DOJ has taken legal action against Texas for installing concertina wire and buoy barriers along parts of the Texas border near Eagle Pass. This action comes amid Biden’s deliberate Open Borders policies to make illegal immigration appear lawful. Consequently, there has been a significant surge in illegal border crossings and admission of ineligible parolees through ports of entry. The use of parole programs, the CBP One app, and an increase in “gotaways” boasts a “ninety percent reduction of border apprehensions” on paper. This is a way of cooking the books in order to declare the problem solved.

Strong Borders President Chris Russo emphasized that Texas, under Article I, Section 10, Clause 3 of The Constitution has the authority to take more proactive measures to repel the invasion at its border and has urged Governor Abbott and the Texas Legislature to pass effective border security measures. Governor Abbott wields the unilateral authority to call for a special session, providing an opportunity to establish a Texas border force, mandate E-Verify, complete the Texas border wall, and end in-state tuition for illegal aliens. So far, in three sessions this calendar year, Texas politicians have failed to take necessary action, leaving everyday Texans to deal with the fallout of the invasion.

Texas needs E-Verify

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has been criticized for not taking action to address the incentives for illegal immigration. Despite the overwhelming evidence that employment is the largest driver of illegal immigration, Abbott has not made efforts to remove this pull factor. The use of E-Verify, a federal program that checks the legal status of new employees upon hiring, could help deter the hiring of illegal aliens, but Abbott has remained silent on the issue and has not publicly supported legislation to strengthen state law.
