Could an Illegal Be Using Your Social Security Number to Gain Employment?

The Free Press is reporting on an often overlooked crime committed by illegal aliens—the theft of Social Security numbers. Federal officials agree that this is a massive scheme, with an estimated one million instances of stolen identification and fraudulent Social Security numbers in 2023 alone.

The article states, “Last month, The Free Press reported that nearly 80 workers arrested at a meatpacking plant in Omaha, Nebraska, were allegedly working under false identities.”

More arrests were made at Buckeye Fire Equipment Company in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, where at least 30 individuals have been accused of identity theft. Earlier this year in Florida, 18 illegals were indicted for misusing Social Security numbers.

For every SSN that is stolen, an American is paying the price of time, money, and a damaged reputation. Even worse, it’s not just the illegal aliens causing this problem. A hiring manager in Ohio allegedly stole the identities of U.S. citizens and gave them to job applicants at the company’s plants.

Countless victims have come forward, sharing their struggles to regain their identity and correct issues caused by someone else opening bank accounts, taking out loans, and filing tax returns in their names.

One way to correct this issue is by reinstating “no-match letters,” which the Social Security Administration stopped sending out during the Obama and Biden presidencies. These letters alert employers about discrepancies with the information an employer provides to the SS agency about an employee and the employee’s information in the SS agency’s records.

Also, requiring E-Verify, a priority of Texans for Strong Borders, would help combat this and many other devastating issues caused by open-border policies and a lack of accountability for employers who utilize illegal labor.
