This week, the effort to safeguard Texas from the effects of the Biden border invasion took a significant step forward. The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation held a vote on implementing a new policy that would effectively ban illegal aliens from replacing American workers at jobs that require a professional license.
The department officials voted unanimously to require proof of citizenship or legal immigration status in order to acquire any professional license. The policy will go into effect on May 1 and applies to both new licenses and those up for renewal. Many different types of ID are acceptable, including driver’s licenses, passports, birth certificates, military ID, handgun licenses, and federal immigration documents.
This new requirement is a gigantic win for the economy and border security because it will prevent illegal aliens from acquiring many jobs in Texas. Many of these illegal aliens send remittances out of the Texas economy back to their nations of origin.
This is also a blow to unscrupulous employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens in licensed industries. Often, this results in poor treatment of the illegal aliens themselves, who are both totally dependent on their employers and fear being reported to the U.S. government for deportation.
Requiring proof of citizenship for professional licenses severely limits the number of jobs and fields illegal aliens have access to. Some argue that industries losing their illegal workers hurts the economy, but it is American citizens who are often undercut by cheap foreign labor in these industries.
This policy does not prevent an illegal alien from getting a job in our state, but this change is a positive step and major win for the state, and Texans for Strong Borders encourages the state government to continue to work towards preventing any illegal from obtaining employment in the United States.
