An illegal alien horrifically attacked an innocent mother and her three-year-old at a San Antonio park years after the Biden administration allowed him to stay in the country. Indian national Atharva Vias was arrested and charged for the brutal attack on April 18th, when he emerged from the woods and attacked Gabriella Perez and her daughter, Amelia.
Vyas grabbed Gabriella’s hair and punched her in the jaw, causing her to drop her daughter. He then pinned the toddler on the ground, gouged at her eyes with his thumbs, and began biting her face and mouth several times. Fortunately, there were nearby bystanders who intervened when Gabriella cried for help and dragged Vyas off the child before he could continue his gruesome attack.
The heroic crowd beat Vyas unconscious and held him until police arrived. The toddler was taken to the hospital after sustaining severe injuries, including bites on her face and the loss of two teeth. The attack was described by Gabriella Perez as something “out of a zombie movie.” Authorities said Vyas was under the influence of a cannabis product called “wax,” and ICE lodged a detainer to transfer him into federal custody after his criminal proceedings.
This vicious attack, however unusual, was entirely preventable. Vyas originally entered the country legally on a student visa in 2023 under the Biden administration. Shortly after arriving in the US, he was arrested on charges of felony assault at the University of Texas campus. There is no public information on what happened to these charges after Vyas was arrested.
The college contacted ICE about the incident, but the Biden administration analyzed the crime and determined it was “not egregious enough” to warrant visa revocation. When Donald Trump took office, his administration determined the arrest was enough to merit visa revocation and revoked it in 2025, making Vyas a criminal illegal alien. Vyas, however, managed to avoid deportation until he launched his cannibalistic attack and was caught.
This case is a perfectly clear demonstration of the consequences of open-borders policies. The Biden administration, in its desire to put violent criminals first, chose not to hold Vyas accountable for his felony assault charges and kept him in the country, knowing full well he was a risk to public safety.
An innocent family has suffered due to leftist compassion for this monstrous criminal. Had authorities made the responsible choice back in 2023 and removed this threat to America, Vyas would be in India where he belongs, and the Perez family would be living their lives in peace instead of recovering from a zombie-like attack.
Texans for Strong Borders exists to protect our state from monsters like Vyas and the corrupt enablers in the Biden administration who allowed him to commit this heinous crime. The federal and state governments must prioritize the Strong Borders priorities of bolstering immigration enforcement and reforming legal immigration. Every single illegal alien allowed to remain in America is another potential Atharva Vyas, and we must deport them all or else watch as American families and their children are brutalized by more senseless violence.
