The Trump administration is now cutting partnerships with external groups tied to DEI, open borders, and other left-wing causes. The Department of the Interior (DOI) identified 43 partnerships with outside groups that were “operating in direct opposition” to its mission. Secretary Doug Burgum claimed these groups did not provide a benefit to the American people.
The cut eliminated $4 million in total, and the Department is removing references to the groups from its website. This effort follows a department-wide review back in March 2026 that found nearly 3,000 agreements with 2,000+ outside groups, including NGOs, nonprofits, educational institutions, and private entities.
The agreements provided for internship programs, conservation initiatives, research projects, and more for the outside organizations. The specific organizations whose partnerships were terminated include a variety of left-wing causes, primarily DEI, support for illegal aliens, and climate change. These included the Hispanic Access Foundation, which provides scholarships for illegal alien students, and Latino Outdoors, which provides instructions to illegal aliens on how to evade ICE.
This move by the DOI is an important step towards defanging the vast network of NGOs and other organizations the Left operates to push open borders and seize power from the American people. Many of these organizations previously operated in the shadows, taking taxpayer money and then using it to advance ideological agendas designed to harm the very people who paid for them.
Now, the Trump administration is holding them accountable and cutting off the flow of funding they never should have been granted. Leftists in the US government bureaucracy have no right to take taxpayer money and give it to whoever supports their radical agendas.
If we allow this to continue, we are simply handing over our sovereignty to bureaucrats and allowing them to outsource leftist tyranny to groups the public may never know about. To be clear, these partnerships were not required by law; they were instances in which the US government willingly funneled money into leftist causes. And it took a giant audit by the Trump administration to identify and remove them.
Texans for Strong Borders applauds this bold move by the administration. The border is not strong or secure as long as the government—be it federal or state—is paying people to enable and support the crime of illegal immigration.
Texas must now mirror this DOGE-like effort by the Department of the Interior. Illegal aliens have no right to our tax dollars or support from our government. One of the keys to halting illegal immigration is removing financial incentives that drive it. America is a sovereign nation whose people deserve dignity and respect, not to be used as the world’s ATM.
