Authorities busted another foreign national attempting to sabotage American democracy. Imelda Magallanes, a Mexican national and Lawful Permanent Resident in Midland, Texas, was charged with illegally voting in federal elections.

Magallanes successfully registered to vote in 2020 and proceeded to vote in the 2024 election. She used her Texas driver license to register to vote despite not being a citizen, and now faces potential prison time and deportation.

This crime is part of a larger pattern of noncitizens voting in our elections. Left-wing politicians constantly deny or minimize the impact of foreign voters, but Americans must not fall for these lies. Noncitizens, whether legal or illegal, lack loyalty to America. Any votes they cast are for their own benefit, at the expense of American citizens.

The Left is constantly seeking new ways to import more non-Americans. These noncitizens function as political assets, voting for Democrats in exchange for amnesty. Once they have gained a foothold in the political system, chain migration and demographic change become weapons against the Left’s enemies.

Magallanes, in particular, proves how easy it is to run this scheme. She came into the country legally and did not break any laws until she sought out the ballot box. Noncitizens should not under any circumstances be allowed to register to vote, yet she had no problem doing so.

In a secure country, Magallanes would have been denied when she registered to vote and the system should have filtered her out. Whether this was caused by an organized conspiracy or accidental errors, we must do more to secure our elections.

Examples like this are why Texans for Strong Borders and other organizations urged Congress to pass the SAVE Act, which would require proof of citizenship be provided in order to register to vote in federal elections.

As it stands, our voter registration system is weak and filled with loopholes that are easy to exploit. And as long as the opportunity to abuse the system is there, people will take advantage of it.

While isolated cases such as Imelda Magallanes are being discovered, charges brought years after the voter fraud occurred do not repair the damage done to the country.
