In a new letter sent by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX-23), the agency revealed that there are currently 662,566 noncitizens with criminal histories on the ICE non-detained docket, including 13,099 convicted of homicide (with 1,845 pending cases) and 15,811 convicted of Sexual Assault (with 4,250 pending cases).
ICE Deputy Director Patrick Lechlietner acknowledged in the letter that aliens previously convicted of homicide are typically not eligible for released from ICE custody. And yet, over 13,000 such aliens are free to victimize more American citizens.
Make no mistake: these people should be immediately deported. Americans should not be forced to tolerate noncitizen murderers roaming our streets, even if their nations of origin refuse deportations from the United States.
This is yet another example of the intentional and egregious dereliction of duty that characterizes immigration enforcement under the Biden-Harris Administration.
On Wednesday, Congress passed a 3-month Continuing Resolution to avoid a government shutdown. 82 Republicans voted against the measure. Speaker Mike Johnson had previously stated that Congress would not pass such funding bill unless it included provisions from the SAVE Act by Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21).
The SAVE Act, passed by Congress as a standalone bill in July, would have “required individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship in order to vote in federal elections.” This comes amidst reports from a number of states who have found non-citizens on their voter rolls. Unfortunately, the bill has gone nowhere in the U.S. Senate.
In the end, Johnson could not come up with the votes to pass the Continuing Resolution with the SAVE Act attached, as several Republicans (all of whom supported the SAVE Act outright) held out due to a concern about the current levels and content of government spending.
This failure to successfully leverage demands during a funding battle is just the latest in a long line of failures that have marked the current congress and led to the ouster of former speaker Kevin McCarthy.
Because Speaker Johnson could not assuage the concerns of his Republican colleagues, the federal government will now be funded at current levels with no changes in policy to combat the invasion at our southern border.
