Texans for Strong Borders Condemns Open Borders Biden Administration for Launching Legal Attack on Texas
Houston, TX, January 3, 2024 – Today, the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit against the State of Texas, Governor Greg Abbott, and Texas Department of Public Safety Director Steve McCraw over the recent passage of SB 4, which creates a state crime for illegal entry and re-entry. In the filing, the DOJ states, “The United States brings this action to preserve its exclusive authority under federal law to regulate the entry and removal of noncitizens.”
Texans for Strong Borders President Chris Russo issued the following statement:
“Since virtually the moment he assumed office, Joe Biden has maliciously fought to keep the Texas Border open to invasion by illegal aliens. He has dismantled federal immigration law, ended effective Trump administration policies, abused our asylum system, established several illegal parole schemes, and taken Border Patrol off the line to assist in processing illegal aliens to be released into the interior of our nation.
Under his administration, we have seen over 8 million nationwide border encounters and millions of gotaways. Last year alone, there were over 3 million border encounters and just 142,000 deportations executed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). And now, in addition to dismantling border barriers placed by the State of Texas in contempt of a court order, he is mobilizing the Department of Justice to prevent Texas from dealing with the mess he and the Open Borders idealogues within his administration have created.
Going into the third special session, Texans for Strong Borders asked Governor Abbott to include on the call legislation empowering the State of Texas to return illegal aliens to Mexico. The resulting legislation, SB 4, is a constitutional and conservative measure to do just that. For the first time, Texas will charge those crossing our border illegally with a state crime and order them to return to Mexico.
Texans have had enough. We will not sit idly by while Open Borders idealogues in the White House allow millions of illegal aliens to stream into our state each year and be released into our communities. If the federal government refuses to secure our border, our state will, and indeed must step into the gap.”
