The SAVE America Act, touted heavily by President Trump in his State of the Union address, continues to be a top point of contention in Congress. The bill has now advanced to the floor for debate in the Senate.
However, Senate Leader John Thune (R-SD) brought the bill without abolishing the filibuster or forcing the Democrats to perform a talking filibuster. This effectively allows Democrats to block passage of the bill without taking time out of their schedules or going on the record as “no” votes.
Republicans can also override the filibuster with 60 votes, but the GOP holds only 53 seats in the Senate. Thune’s failure to bring enough support for the abolition of the filibuster marks a strong betrayal of President Trump’s agenda.
While Blue states ban voter ID, a measure overwhelmingly supported by both Republican and Democrat voters, the SAVE Act is the only path towards securing American elections and preventing illegal aliens from sabotaging our country by voting illegally. Texans for Strong Borders calls on the Senate to send the bill to the President’s desk, even if it means ending the filibuster.
