Securing the Border is a Solution, Not a Stunt

“We must stop the invasion at our southern border.”¹ – President Donald J. Trump

There is a horrible crisis unfolding at our southern border and the situation gets worse everyday. Stopping the invasion at our border with Mexico starts with securing our border. CBS Mornings smeared the effort to secure the U.S. southern border as an “expensive political stunt.”² Defending the Texas border and following the U.S. Constitution is not a stunt. When President Donald Trump first suggested building the wall, it wasn’t revolutionary and it wasn’t even new. However, it was laughed at by his critics. We have the constitutional power and responsibility to secure our border, and it’s on us to act!

With record levels of apprehensions this year, it is vital that we secure our border. “Border Patrol agents in the five Texas-based sectors apprehended nearly 117,000 migrants in August.”³ Building a wall is the first, essential step to securing our southern border.

Building a wall or securing a border between nations is not a unique problem solely faced by the United States. Walls work! Poland erected a border wall and it has been very effective in keeping out illegal immigrants, mostly from the Middle East. “The number of migrants attempting to cross the border from Belarus into Poland has declined by nearly two-thirds since Polish authorities built a wall along the frontier.”⁴

“President Biden’s inaction at our southern border continues putting the lives of Texans—and Americans—at risk and is overwhelming our communities.”⁵ Governor Abbott recently said in a press statement. We agree! Gov. Abbott has the obligation to defend our border and that right is reflected in Article I, Section 10, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution, which states:

“No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any Duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.”⁶

With the imbued authority to protect our country from invasion laid out in the Constitution and the ability of a wall to deter and stem the flow of illegal aliens and drugs, we must finish building the wall and secure our southern border!
