Federal Lawmakers Debate Over Offering Illegal Aliens Amnesty

Some Republicans are pushing to expand work visa programs for certain temporary industries, arguing it will help with labor shortages. They are trying to compromise President Trump’s hardline approach to illegal alien deportations. Others in the party say expanding visas and allowing illegal aliens to stay is just another way to prioritize foreign labor over American workers.

This sparked a debate during the U.S. House Appropriations Committee’s markup of the fiscal 2026 Homeland Security spending bill. Republicans adopted an amendment allowing employers to hire illegal aliens for temporary work in agriculture, tourism, and circus work on extended visas.

The Republicans working to expand work visas for illegal immigrants claim that it would be a step towards immigration reform. The opposing Republicans believe it takes away American jobs, threatens American families, and drives down wages. U.S. Representative Brandon Gill (R-TX) said,

“We’ve suffered for four years from open borders, millions of people coming across the border illegally, ravaging our communities, not just from the drugs and the crime, but from a massive influx of what amounts to cheap labor and drives down wages for working-class Americans.”

On Bannon’s War Room, Steve Bannon debunks the hoax that importing illegal aliens is helping the American job market. He explains that millions of hard-working, well-educated Americans cannot get a job because employers would rather hire immigrants here on temporary work visas and pay them next to nothing, rather than hire qualified American workers. Does this sound like immigration reform to you?

Texans for Strong Borders believes that offering amnesty to illegal aliens and offering them temporary work visas does not help anyone. It costs hard-working Americans jobs and reduces these illegal aliens to indentured servants. Strong Borders is fighting hard to deport illegal aliens, keep American jobs safe and available for Americans, and put Texans first.
