In response to a push by DFW Airport for expansion with their plan to install public footwashing stations, Governor Greg Abbott responded fiercely, demanding an end to the construction and enlisting the Department of Justice to investigate the project.
The Governor sent a letter to US Attorney General Todd Blanche and Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon informing them of the discriminatory “wudu” Islamic footwashing stations. The threat behind such an investigation is that religious discrimination violations could lead to the revocation of grants and other government funding.
Governor Abbott stated, “Airports can no more offer Muslim-only bathroom spaces than they can maintain White-only bathrooms.”
DFW Airport subsequently canceled the planned additional stations. No change was made to the existing footwashing station, which had long been present in the airport’s interfaith chapel. The new stations, unlike the preexisting one, were planned to be located in public terminals.
Estimated cost for the proposed facilities ranged from $100,000 to $300,000.
The stations are intended for the ritual of wudu (ablution), in which Muslims wash the hands, face, feet, and arms before prayer. Islam does not require dedicated public stations; water is available in restrooms, and alternatives are permitted when facilities are absent.
Expanding a facility already available in the interfaith chapel into general public areas
shows the true intent of cultural dominance and hostility. Islamists are taking over public spaces not because of a genuine religious need, but out of a desire to establish cultural preeminence. Islamic pressure and influence on American institutions, both in Texas and nationwide, is a clear threat. Texans for Strong Borders stands against the Islamization of Texas. America must uphold its own culture and values or risk being taken over by cultures willing to fight in the public arena.
Stemming the flow of foreign nationals whose beliefs are contrary to American ideals remains necessary. That is why one of the Strong Borders priorities is to limit and reform legal immigration, and to ensure that our immigration system puts the interests of American citizens first.
