On Monday, voters launched a recall petition in McKinney, Texas, targeting the mayor and three city council members. The recall gained momentum after the city council ignored public backlash and unanimously supported construction of a new mosque.
On August 4th, the city council voted 7-0 to approve the McKinney Islamic Association’s plan for a 15,000 square foot mosque complex. Over 150 people came to speak both for and against the project, including Congressman Keith Self and State Rep. Keresa Richardson (both testified against).
However, the city council ultimately ignored those opposed to the project and unanimously sided with the McKinney Islamic Association. Now, the disenfranchised voters are seeking to correct the actions of their local government through the recall process.
Organizers cite a clear pattern: officials who refuse to listen to constituents and who advance priorities that run against the community’s best interests. Petition organizers have until September 26th to gather enough signatures to qualify for the November election. While three city councilmen and the mayor are facing the recall, the rest of the city council is up for reelection, offering McKinney residents the chance to replace every councilman who voted yes on the mosque.

Islamists have been working to seize political power in Texas in many different ways, such as the proposed Muslim-only community formerly known as EPIC City, and the illegitimate Muslim university “TexAM”. This mosque is part of the same strategy to replace the American way of life with an Islam-centered society.
Elected officials like mayors and city councils have a duty to prioritize the needs of their community, not special interests or foreign agents. Government officials should protect people from Islamic dominance, not facilitate it. This recall sends the message that Texans will not tolerate leaders who betray their community for anti-American goals.

If the recall defeats these politicians, the consequences will be wide-ranging. Too many elected representatives forget that they work for the people, not the other way around. Seeing a city council removed for going against public opinion will make them more responsive to grassroots pressure.
McKinney voters successfully recalled a city councilman who supported left-wing ideology back in 2020. Now, they have the opportunity to do so again. At Texans for Strong Borders, we fully support this effort.
