TFSB calls on Governor Abbott to make Border Security an Emergency Item
Governor Abbott and others in GOP Leadership in the Texas legislature ran on “securing the future of Texas,” which starts with securing our Texas Border first
HOUSTON, TEXAS January 18, 2023 — Texans for Strong Borders calls on Governor Abbott to make securing the border an emergency item during his upcoming State of the State address.
Governor Abbott, who unveils his vision, ideas, and mindset ahead of every legislative session during this speech, can show his commitment to the safety and security of Texans with this critical step.
In his state of the state for the 87th legislative session in 2021, Greg Abbott set five emergency items. Border security was not included.
In June last year, thousands of Texas Republicans gathered in Houston to set priorities for the 88th legislative session in 2023. These delegates made securing the border one of the top 8 legislative priorities. Our Republican leadership in Austin, including Abbott, MUST do the same.
Abbott can join the Speaker of the House and Lieutenant Governor, who have each signaled in the past week that they would prioritize border security in their respective chambers.
Texans for Strong Borders President Chris Russo issued the following statement:
“The Governor, the Lieutenant Governor, and the Speaker of the House have made promises time and time again to secure the border, continuously mentioning it at every turn during the campaign trail. The time for action has come.”
Russo further added:
“The bus rides for illegal aliens to liberal bastions makes for great viewing entertainment, but the efforts of the Governor so far have fallen short of stemming the tide of human smuggling, human trafficking, and drugs pouring across our border every day.”
